Dr. Kim is an Associate Professor as of July 2018 in the Department of Computer Science, College of Computing and Software Engineering (CCSE), Kennesaw State University (KSU), Marietta, GA, USA since July 2016. Before joining KSU, Dr. Kim was an Assistant Professor (Tenured & Promoted to Associate Professor) in the Department of Mathematics and Physics at North Carolina Central University, Durham, NC, USA from August 2010 to June 2016. He received Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of Texas at Dallas, Richardson, TX, USA in May 2010. He received M.S. degree in computer science and engineering from Hanyang University, South Korea in Feb. 2005 and B.S. degree in electronic and computer engineering from Hanyang University, Ansan, South Korea in Feb. 2003.

Dr. Kim is a Senior Member of IEEE and a Senior Member of ACM. He is also an Associate Editor of IEEE Access, COSN, DMAA, and MFC. He will serve/has served as a TPC co-Chair of COCOON 2020, ACMSE 2019, COCOA 2018, SPATEN 2018, CSoNet 2017, COCOA 2015. His research interests include

  • Data Science (Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Social Network Analysis),
  • Cyber Security (Applied Cryptography, Security, Privacy, Data-driven Security and Privacy),
  • Cyber Physical Systems (Mobile Computing, Drone Technology, Wireless Sensor Networking),
  • Next Generation Computing and Networking (Cloud Computing, Edge Computing, Fog Computing, Internet of Things, High Performance Computing), and
  • Algorithm Design and Analysis (Combinatorial Optimization, Approximation Algorithm).

Since October 2018, Dr. Kim also works as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Frendesign (Savannah, GA, USA).

His research activities are/were supported by US National Science Foundation, National Security Research Institute of South Korea, Korea Power Exchange of South Korea, Ministry of Education of South Korea, Ministry of Science and Information and Communications Technology of South Korea, Institute for National Security Strategy of South Korea, and local companies within Greater Atlanta Area (LexisNexis Risk Solutions, Alpharetta, GA, YoKim LLC, Alpharetta, GA, and Like it System LLC, Doraville, GA) as well as The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) at Kennesaw State University (KSU).
